Listing of gender support services in Rochester
The Division of Adolescent Medicine at Golisano Children’s Hospital, University of Rochester, has services available to aid families, youth, and young adults who identify as transgender, gender fluid, or have other questions or concerns about their gender. They offer appointments to youths and young adults through age 25 and their families/care providers, to discuss these issues and to explore the options available for their care on various days and times. Patients are seen in their clinical suite at 601 Elmwood Avenue by appointment only. It is preferable that an existing primary care provider or mental health provider refer the individual to us, but we will, in certain circumstances, accept self-referrals.

Transgender Student Rights (GLSEN)
GLMA – GLMA’s mission is to ensure equality in healthcare for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) individuals and healthcare providers. Resources include Top 10 lists for patients to bring and ask their providers.
Trevor Project – The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) young people ages 13-24.
National Center for Transgender Equality – The National Center for Transgender Equality is the nation’s leading social justice advocacy organization winning life-saving change for transgender people.
Welcoming Schools (Human Rights Campaign) – Welcoming Schools offers professional development tools, lessons aligned with the Common Core State Standards, and many additional resources for elementary schools on:
- Embracing family diversity
- Avoiding gender stereotyping and affirming gender
- Ending bullying and name-calling.
Welcoming Schools is inclusive of the many types of diversity found in our communities including LGBT families and people. Administrators, educators and parents/guardians can find materials necessary to create learning environments in which all students are welcomed and respected.
