“Mama Rosa” Continues the Rochester, NY Tradition Again this Year

“Mama Rosa” Wims will continue a Rochester, NY tradition over 30 years in the making, again this Veteran’s Day for so many in our local community.  Ms. Wims, a retired nurse, who is known for her charitable work, is teaming with Foodlink, the Feeding America regional food bank, this year to serve a pre-Thanksgiving dinner for children and families.“Mama Rosa” chose Veteran’s Day for this event as children are off from school and many volunteers are available. For “Mama Rosa”, giving back to the community provides her with a great deal of happiness and fulfillment.

Statistics show that 1 in 6 Americans are hungry, which includes more than 1 in 5 children.   Foodlink, which a part of a national network of 200 food banks, salvages and reallocates more than 16 million pounds of food to approximately 450 community agencies throughout the 10 counties in the Genesee Valley and Fingerlakes region of Upstate, NYnon-emergency programs such as group homes and senior centers, helping non-profits agen.  In Central and Western NY, approximately 36% of children are served by Foodlink and approximately 5% are elderly.  Approximately 82% of clients served are below the federal poverty line.

Please join us in spreading the word for “Mama Rosa’s Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner” that will be held on Veteran’s Day, Monday, November 11, 2013 at the Montgomery Neighborhood Center located at 10 Cady Street. The dinner starts at noon and continues until the food runs out. First come, first serve.
